SUMMARY:The Covid Effect: The impact on domestic violence
DESCRIPTION:Women and girls continue to suffer from discrimination around the world\, despite significant progress towards gender equality under the UN Millennium Development Goals. \nGender equality is required for a peaceful and sustainable world and this event aims to help continue the conversation and raise awareness for Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment. \nSince the outbreak of COVID-19\, emerging data and reports from those on the front lines\, have shown that all types of violence against women and girls\, particularly domestic violence\, has intensified. \nThe level of domestic violence incidents within a community has a strong negative correlation with social\, economic and cultural inequalities between the genders. \nHosted by the UNAA NSW Young Professionals Network\, we invite key speakers Maha Abdo OAM\, CEO Muslim Women Australia\, Michael Perusco\, CEO Berry Street and Simone Clarke\, CEO UN Women Australia to discuss the impact that the global pandemic has had on domestic violence within Australia.

SUMMARY:Moving Forward In A Diverse Community
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a panel discussion to discuss and address Diversity\, Equity\, & Inclusion and give young professionals actionable advice to build a better system.\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout this event\n\n\n“The System Isn’t Broken. It Was Built This Way” – Grace Forrest \nWe’ve all been to workshops and panel discussions with corporate leaders and heard the same spiel around D\, E & I – “we’re listening to our people and improving our community engagement to provide better opportunities for minority groups.” But\, how? What is it really like on the ground? What challenges are you facing? What have you tried? What’s working? What’s not? \nThe next generation of leaders is incomparable to those of the past – the way we work\, the way we view the world\, the importance we place on value-driven organisations\, working with our purpose and hyperfocusing on environmental and social sustainability. \nWe are in a unique position to harness the learnings from current leaders\, which are more accessible now than they ever have been. But how do we take these learnings and create systemic change to build a more equitable and inclusive society\, not just in our professional lives but across the board? \nTo ambitiously change our narrative and improve the capability of our future leaders\, we need to influence one another to continue to build our leadership character (and capability) by listening\, observing and making informed decisions together. \nThis event will create dialogue between stakeholders of the future – emerging leaders for the Young Professionals space and minority groups of our thriving communities\, and provide a safe forum for learning\, speaking our truths and addressing the fundamental flaws in our system. \nWe want to address some of the fundamental questions of: \n– How do we assess D\, E & I in the workplace? How do we actually address it? What can I do\, in my role? \n– How do we reflect on residual behaviours that will continue to shape our teams into the future? \n– How do we empower each other to make small changes in our own sphere of influence? \nJoin us for this panel discussion\, where our speakers will discuss and address (yes\, really!) this topic and give young professionals actionable advice and tools to build a better system. \nTickets include canapes and a grazing table. \nThis event is a collaboration between the United Nations Association of Australia Young Professionals\, Indigenous Women in Mining and Resources Australia\, and Ebony & Ivory Masterclass and will be moderated by Rhiannon Compton. \nAll proceeds from this event will be donated to MSWA through the Central Park Plunge initiative. \n\n\n\nEvent Sponsors: \nThanks to Business Events Perth and So Perth for supporting this event. \n\n  \nTickets are available here.

SUMMARY:Partnerships for Sustainability: the Role of Consumers in Fast Fashion
DESCRIPTION:Event details\n\n \n\nWednesday the 15th September 6pm – 7.15pm.\n\n \n\nThe event will be held online via Zoom\, link to be sent via email.\n\n \n\nDescription\n\n \n\nFashion is central to our lives. Getting dressed is usually the first thing we do in the morning\, and what we wear is determined by the places we go and who we see\, as we use clothing to send different messages to the outside world.\nFashion has also become one of the most problematic industries for sustainable development.\n\n \n\nNot only has the garment manufacturing sector been the site of much controversy over human rights abuses and environmental degradation\, but it is also an industry with long and opaque supply chains that make it difficult for producers to be held accountable for their operations.\nSo how do we\, consumers\, choose to dress sustainably?\n\n \n\nThis event will examine the ways in which the fashion industry is responding to the demands of the Sustainable Development Goals\, in particular SDG 13 Climate Action and SDG 8 Decent Work and Economic Growth.\n\n \n\nA panel of experts will share their insights into the industry and provide guidance on how to make sustainable fashion choices.\n\n \nRegister here

A Board Member of the Refugee Council of Australia\, Beata has experience working with people from refugee backgrounds within the context of seeking asylum\, sexual assault\, domestic violence\, mental health\, child safety\, and intergenerational/intercultural youth issues. SUMMARY:The Future of Not-For-Profits: Surviving and Thriving in a post COVID-19 World
DESCRIPTION:Join us at 7pm on the 2nd of December for our panel discussion event with the Not-For-Profit sector\, as we discuss the impacts of COVID-19! \nIt goes without saying that COVID-19 has impacted everyone worldwide. The Not-For-Profit sector particularly\, has had to adapt to these unprecedented changes. We hope to strengthen and support the NFP community as they transition towards a post COVID-19 world. \n  \nEvent speakers: \nChristine Diamond – Melbourne City Mission \n\nChristine has been in the not-for-profit sector for over 14 years and has worked in fundraising.
