DESCRIPTION:*NB: This event will comply with Queensland Government guidelines. Should restrictions impact our ability to host this event in person\, refunds will be made available*\n\nToday\, 4 billion people – more than half of humanity – live in cities\, and this is expected to rise to 5 billion people by 2030. \nEven before the COVID-19 pandemic\, cities were dealing with challenges associated with deteriorating air quality\, unplanned urban sprawl\, and the impact of infrastructure and services that do not meet the needs of growing populations. \nJoin us as for an in-depth discussion around Sustainable Development Goal 11: Make cities and human settlements inclusive\, safe\, resilient and sustainable\, and how we can address inequalities. We’ll focus on the multi-faceted process it will take to ensure the future of our urban environments is designed with sustainable development in mind. \nDesigning inclusive\, sustainable cities and communities requires technical and cultural expertise and input from all fields. From engineering and architecture\, to data and social sciences\, achieving this goal will require significant engagement at government and grassroots levels. \nJoin in the conversation with our incredible solutions-focused panel\, as we discuss what we want to see in our cities\, understand the complexity of urban design and explore how we can work together to achieve better outcomes for all. \nMEET OUR PANEL: \n🔹 Associate Professor Elske van de Fliert –  School of Communication and Arts\, Director of the Centre for Communication and Social Change\, UQ. DESCRIPTION:Registration Essential: Click here to register \nCurrently\, one per cent of the world’s population – or 1 in 95 people – is now forcibly displaced. This compares with 1 in 159 in 2010. Amatus is an ex-political asylum seeker who came by canoe in 2006. He gained a Bachelor of International community Development at Victoria University\, Melbourne 2015. He has advocated a worldwide refugee crisis with Australia for UNHCR in Queensland since 2016. He is now advocating one of the most silent and serious humanitarian crises in his country of West Papua for immediate international intervention. \n🔹 Beata Ostapiej-Piatkowski: Beata manages Mercy Community Romero Centre in Brisbane\, providing refugees and people seeking asylum with practical support. A Board Member of the Refugee Council of Australia\, Beata has experience working with people from refugee backgrounds within the context of seeking asylum\, sexual assault\, domestic violence\, mental health\, child safety\, and intergenerational/intercultural youth issues. Originally from Poland with a background in psychology\, Beata has personally experienced great dichotomies of civil rights during her journey of seeking asylum and living in different countries. \nThis event is free of charge\, however if you are able we would greatly appreciate your donation to UNAA Young Professionals Qld towards the costs of running this and future events! \n\nVenue: Level 7\, Griffith University Webb Centre (S02).\nLight refreshments provided\nDress code is business casual\nRegistration essential\nDoors open at 6pm!\n\nNB: This event will comply with Queensland Government guidelines.\nShould restrictions impact our ability to host this event in person\, it will be hosted online via Zoom and registered attendees will receive details via email to join the event. \n————– \nAs always\, we at the UNAA respectfully acknowledge that this online event will be hosted by individuals on the land of the Turrbal and Yuggera peoples\, as well as watched by others from across the many Nations. SUMMARY:UN & Australia Sustainable Partnerships Forum
DESCRIPTION:The incredible global impact of the Coronavirus pandemic has made people in Australia and around the world aware of the urgent need for action to ensure people’s basic needs are met; that the planet is made secure from the effects of climate change and that our future world is healthier\, safer\, fairer and more prosperous. \nThe Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) provide the global blueprint to end poverty\, protect our planet and ensure prosperity. Working together to implement them by 2030 will mean we address the underlying factors which exacerbated the worldwide crisis: poverty; food insecurity; fragmented health systems\, educational inequality and climate change. \nOn 20 and 21 April 2021\, we will bring together governments of all levels\, businesses\, universities\, start-ups\, students and community organisations to hear from\, and interact with\, leading speakers from within the UN and from companies\, universities and organisations which partner with the UN. \nOver two days\, Forum delegates will have access to compelling and inspiring expert information. While virtual\, people will be able to connect\, network and lay the groundwork for the range of partnerships needed to achieve the SDGs. This gathering will encompass all 17 Goals but be guided by SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals to ensure it is outcome oriented. \nAfter a worldwide consultation\, the UN has identified four key areas which require urgent and sustainable solutions. If you haven’t already done so\, we urge you to watch Nations United: a beautiful and inspiring visual representation of these challenges. \nOur Forum will use these as overarching themes for our range of Keynote and Panel Sessions and Interactive Workshops. They are: \n\nClimate and Planet\nPoverty and Inequality\nJustice and Human Rights\nGender Equality

We hope to strengthen and support the NFP community as they transition towards a post COVID-19 world. \n  \nEvent speakers: \nChristine Diamond – Melbourne City Mission \n\nChristine has been in the not-for-profit sector for over 14 years and has worked in fundraising.
