Topic “Global challenges around conflict and climate-driven mobility; rethinking how we respond to today’s 71 million internally displaced persons”.

Robert Piper (Australia) took up the position of Special Adviser to the UN Secretary-General on Solutions to Internal Displacement in mid-2022.

In this role, Mr. Piper is responsible for coordinating the SG’s Action Agenda on Internal Displacement and to operationalize recommendations identified by the SG’s High-Level Panel on Internal Displacement. Working with a small Geneva-based team, the Adviser will especially strengthen UN leadership on solutions to displacement, through greater high-level Member State engagement, stronger linkages to the development system (including the international financial institutions) and by driving greater collaboration across the full breadth of the UN system, on the solutions agenda.
