UNAA are sad to advise that Life Member, Dr Keith Suter AM, died in Sydney on 10 December 2025, at the age of 77, after a long illness. Given Keith’s lifelong commitment to the United Nations, human rights and justice, it is particularly poignant that Keith died on UN Human Rights Day.
A Memorial Service for Keith will be held on Saturday, March 14 2026, at the Wesley Mission, 220 Pitt Street, Sydney commencing at 12.00pm. Friends and colleagues are invited to attend to celebrate his life.
Dr Suter was named as a Life Member of UNAA in 1999 in recognition of his service which included at various times from 1978 to 1999 as national president and as state president of Western Australia and New South Wales. He was also on the executive of the World Federation of UN Associations in Geneva
Keith Suter was an engaging intellectual, with a great wit, who could communicate complex issues to a wide general audience. He was a regular presenter on Channel 7 Sunrise program and had a monthly spot on national ABC Overnight radio discussing current national and international issues. He was able to communicate the values of the UNAA in an easily understandable way
There was a wonderful eulogy published in The Sydney Morning Herald on 19 December from his close friend, Michael Kirby and his partner, Jane Phelan, which provides an insight into the life of a man who, with extraordinary talent, dedication and humour worked to make the world a better place for all. He will be greatly missed.
